Taegeuk 2: i Jang simboliza a Tae del Taegeuk.

Taegeuk 2 Jang symbolizes Tae of the Taegeuk. Tae originally means a silent pond. So if we apply this to the functions of the human body, it means that the control of respiration and furthermore it could be considered as the control of emotions. For these reasons, you must stabilize the energy in your body centering your lower abdomen. This is because even if you have learned the skills, if you cannot control your respiration and emotions properly, it is hard to attack and defend accurately.

Therefore, Tae includes the sense that you should practice the Poomsae with a mind that is like a pond with a silent surface but is deep under water. In general, you should maintain Oeyunaegang(An iron hand in a velvet glove). The new motions are Ulguljireugi, and many actions of Apchagi have been included so that the player can practice for self customization.

Traditionally the Taegeuk expressed the principles of the change of the universe.

Mankind was also thought to be a small universe who follows these principles So the beginning part when nothing existed and was silent is called "Moogeuk. The moment when the change started was known as the Targuek. The Targuck went through the relative movements of the EumnyangsasangYin and Yang thought). The force extended to the front and back and the left and right in a three dimensional order. Furthermore it became to represent the basic force and the direction of the eight trigrams.

When practicing the Taegeuk Poomsae, Moogeuk which means silence (anatory posture which has the meaning of Moosimii free from obstructive thoughts) the Taegeuk Poomsae is composed of 8 Jangs because the process of learning follows the basic forces of the eight trigrams. So even if the Toegek Poomsae is divided in 8 Jangs, this is consequentially a step by step system for the practice phase and it means that the 8 forces from the 8 stages are continuously changing while influencing each other. The eight stages of this Poomsae is connected one another because Taegeuk itself is a movement of the circle.

From the 8 trigrams, Toegeuk 1 Jang symbolizes the Sky and corresponds with letter (Geon; Sky). Geon means Yang in the relative effects between the Yin and Yang Geon has expressed the force which notifies the start of all creations. Therefore, Geon corresponds with the head of the human body and this means correct understanding and adoption of skills through the training of Poomsae. In the Seogi phase, trainees learn basic walking and actions are composed of basic Naeryeomakgi, Anmakgi and Apchagi.

KUKKIWON WORLD TAEKWONDO HEADQUARTERS

World Taekwondo Academy produced the video to properly spread the spirit and technology of taekwondo to around the world.

Pyeongwon

Pyeongwon means a large size of land extended to all directions. The big land represents the base of life as mother of life. The Poomsae is based on the peace according to the letter ‘本’(Bon; origins) and ‘用’(Yong; usage) and the conflict. New motions are Palgup Ollyeochigi, Geodeureo Yeommakgi, Danggyeojireugi, Meongaechigi, and Hecheo Santeulmakgi. Junbiseogi is Moaseogi that Owen Gyeopson puts on the lower abdomen that is the resource of physical power like Seogi, while gathering the power to the lower abdomen. The Poomsaeseon represents the basis and changes of the

Pyeongwon. The stage of learning the Pyeongwon Poomsae can be considered as a stage in which martial arts convert to chivalry. The reason is because you learn the basic Taegeuk Poomsae in the Process of Yougupja and after you learn the first bundle of Youdanja Poomsae which is the Goryeo, Geumgang, Taebaek, next we need a procedural stage in order to integrate the mind, force and the body to combine Yin and Yang. So after the

development of the body through training, the use of the body becomes quite free and the range of change also becomes wider. The situation in which the range of change becomes wider means that this is a stage in which attacking and defending occurs and although after intense movements, the mind recovers the calm state without any panicking.

The reason why the Poomsaeseon of the Pyeongwon is expressed in the shape of the letter ;一’(Il; one) is to represent infinite extension. Through this procedure, the trainee can recognize the first horizontal concept in order to react against the opponent. If we take this into consideration with a big chivalry concept, it means at last the trainee has managed to position himself on a spot on the center of the Taegeuk and this means that the player can stand on himself. Thus, the meaning of the body that is constructed by the practice procedure is ‘體’ (Che) and the procedure that the trained body can move on the ground and be used to Kongbang is 用(Yong). So Pyeongwon has the meaning that experiences the skillful motion and its usage at the same time.

(Oh Hyun Deuk (2018). Global Taekwondo Master’s Training Program. World Taekwondo Academy Kukkiwon. Sinyoung Printing. Seoul, Korea (pp 480-481) )
